Getting around ZAKOPANE

Zakopane BUS STATION

.:The bus station is located at Chramcówki 35 Street and is part of the CENTRUM KOMUNIKACYJNE, which also includes: a railway station, a multi-storey parking lot, a restaurant and a large Tourist Information office. Everyone who leaves their car at the Park and Go (Parkuj i Jedz) parking lot can use city buses for free. The railway station is being modernized but should be open before Christmas.

PUBLIC BUSES in Zakopane

.:Buses in Zakopane serve three routes - line number 11 Cyrhla - Krzeptowki, line number 14 Harenda - Olcza and line number 18 Bus Station - Spyrkowka. Buses run approximately every hour. Tickets can be purchased on buses at ticket machines or from the driver (for a prepaid amount!) and at ticket machines at the bus station and at several bus stops. Single tickets (4 PLN), 60-minute tickets (5 PLN), 24-hour (10 PLN), 3-day (19 PLN) and 7-day (35 PLN) tickets are available / prices in Dec. 2023. MINIBUS TRANSPORT in Zakopane

.:The most popular form of transport between Zakopane and the surrounding villages (Kościelisko, Witów, Chocholow, Poronin, Murzasichle, Bialka and Bukowina Tatrzańska, etc.) are local minibuses, owned by several small transport companies. Minibuses depart from at the bus station and from the bus stops near the Armii Krajowej roundabout (next to Baza Tatry). Tickets are purchased from the driver. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a current timetable on the Internet.

TAXI, UBER, BOLT in Zakopane

.:There are several taxi companies operating in Zakopane. Personally, I recommend EURO Taxi +48 602 822 666 - a reliable company owned by my friends. If you would like to order further transfers (to the airport, to Slovakia, to the Dunajec River Rafting, etc.), I recommend the family company Wojtanowski +48 601 438 447, with which I have been cooperating for over 20 years. There are no Uber or Bolt drivers in Zakopane yet (2023). When stopping a taxi directly on the street, it is worth asking first how much the driver will charge for our transfer.

HORSE transport in Zakopane

.:In Zakopane you can order horse-drawn transport - most often by horse-drawn carriage, sometimes also by sleigh. Here are some of my tips for tourists: 1. if there is very little snow on the roads, choose a horse-drawn carriage, not a sleigh. The horse will thank you :) 2. before you get into the carriage or sleigh, fix with the coachman length and price of the ride. The acceptable price in the 2023/2024 season is 300 - 350 PLN per hour of sleigh / carriage ride. 3. the most pleasant sleigh rides are organized in the Chocholowska valley - you can order them online here sleigh rides in Chocholowska Valley.

LUGGAGE STORAGE in Zakopane

.:Near the bus and train stations there is Baza Tatry - a cozy place where two friends (who speak excellent English) run a tourist office, tourist information, a shop with handmade souvenirs and a luggage storage room. It's worth visiting here.

My advice for winter travelers

From December to March, sidewalks in Zakopane are covered with snow. If you came to Zakopane with a suitcase on wheels and your accommodation is more than 500 m from the station - you'd better catch a taxi because dragging the suitcase in the snow will get you very tired and you may damage the wheels.
