Tatra National Park (TPN)

Below I will try to present the most important information about the Tatra National Park TPN, which is worth knowing before arriving in the Tatra Mountains:

1. Tickets are required for admission to the Tatra National Park. Currently (August 2026), ticket prices are: standard ticket 11PLN, reduced ticket 5.50PLN, 7-day ticket 55PLN (reduced ticket 27.50PLN). Reduced tickets are available for schoolchildren and students, pensioners, disabled persons, and active duty soldiers. Children under 7 are free of charge.
2. During peak season (July-September), long lines form at the ticket offices located at the entrances to all popular trails. Therefore, I recommend purchasing Tatra National Park tickets online: www.tpn.gov.pl/wstep-do-parku.
3. A ticket for the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch is also an entry ticket to the Tatra National Park
4. From April 1 to November 30, all trails are closed from dusk until dawn.
5. All organized tours for children – including student trips from primary schools, middle schools and secondary schools – must be conducted by authorized Tatra mountain guides.
6. Most hiking trails in the TPN are very well marked and marked. The trail colors do not indicate their difficulty. (download the map of trails in the Tatra National Park )
7. Dogs are not allowed in the TPN area.
8. There are no garbage bins in the Park. Tourists are asked not to leave any garbage in the Park.
9. Camping is prohibited in the Tatra National Park but eight Tatra mountain shelters offer quite comfortable accommodation.
10. All plants in Tatra National Park are protected. Picking berries or flowers is prohibited.
11. Swimming and bathing in Tatra ponds and rivers is not allowed.
12. Brown bears live in the Tatra National Park. If you encounter one, try to calmly retreat. Don't panic – the last fatal attack on a human occurred in the Polish Tatra Mountains 100 years ago.
13. It is forbidden to fly drones in the TPN area.

Curious detail - the first parliamentary act on the protection of animal species in the world was the act on the prohibition of catching and selling alpine animals proper to the Tatras, marmots and wild goats adopted in the Galician Sejm in Lviv on October 5, 1868.

Worth knowing - the fee for a wedding or family photo session in the Tatra National Park is PLN 250 (in August 2026).
